Thought that would get your attention! Actually, there are many of these trees in the capital, Accra, and they bloom around May, when I took this picture--way back in 2005.
I'm unsure of the name--can anyone enlighten me?

I believe that is the Royal/Red Poinciana tree. We have them here in Jamaica as well. They are spectacular when in full bloom, aren't they?
For me that's what makes the tropics. Our tree is 20 feet from the backdoor and little tiny leaves and larger petals cling to my shoes and release as soon as I get into the house. My wife never faults the tree or the location (I planted it in that spot), but I get told about my dirty shoes.
Ann--many thanks for visiting! Have corrected it accordingly!
tog-many thanks for that intimate anecdote; helps put things into perspective. We are blessed, though, aren't we for these trees?;-)
