What is Accra Pictures by Day and Night?

Accra is the capital of the small, West African country of Ghana, which achieved its independence in 1957 from its colonial master, the United Kingdom. It celebrated 50 years in 2007, and is projecting itself fast and furiously as "gateway to West Africa".

It's an exciting city, with its unique problems, but with it close to the Atlantic ocean, and many beaches, who can resist coming here?

Shoprite's Fight (Bread) Club @ Least Once a Week!

This scene might probably belie the sheer physicality associated with usually-Friday evenings when one wants to buy a humble piece of bread at Shoprite, Accra Mall. I tell you: it's no mean feat, forming a bee-line to get fresh bread.

Many a time, I've joked that it's like forming a tro-tro line. I think it's frankly unacceptable. Shoprite doesn't have to keep customers waiting like this as if they'd die if they didn't get bread, should they?

Have a great weekend!

What has happened to the bread Ghanaians used to enjoy before Shoprite came to town?
Why do we have to queue and fight for somethiong because it is from shoprite?
I for one do not see anything special about the bread sold by shoprite. Infact I consider the ubiquitous tea bread sold on every street corner better than the ordinary shoprite bread.

I am also puzzled to why people come all the way to shoprite to buy that white, nondescript bread. It costs 2 GHC, is that really all that cheap?

posekyre--I understand your sentiments, but it has a lot to do with the fcat that the bread at SHOPRITE is bigger, albeit a bit pricey at 2GHC now. Compare that to the local one in the corner that is almost 2GHCC also now, yet half the size!!

Kajsa--It isn't really; just that it lasts longer, and is bigger! I think it's the size that people appreciate;-)
