Collective Tyre-Fixing in Accra

This is really not a regular feature in Accra, but the breakdowns of trucks like these are!

Suffice-to-say, the maintenance of such cars might be this side short of shoddy, hence scenes like these, such as that which I captured on the Tema motorway two weeks ago, are only as common as the number of huge trucks I see driving on the first lane on a two-lane motorway where cars should take precedence!

I believe that now that the road regulator -- National Road Safety Commission -- is under one roof on a Board, along with Board of Directors for the Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL), and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) Ghanaians will enjoy a more efficient road sector that will be safer for all.

New DVLA Plates for Ghanaians!

This post is really in response to a visitor to this blog who resides in Ghana, but wanted to know what is happening with the number plates, now that the numbers have been exhausted.

This picture simply shows that an "09" will be added to the erstwhile number plates that have ceased production insofar as new ones are concerned. Presumably, by 2010, the plates will move from "09" to "10", and maintain regional representation (GR/GT/AS/etc), followed by maximum four digits.

By the way, real life has gotten in the way in a way that has inhibited regular blogging. Thanks for your patronage, nonetheless!

Personalised Number Plates in Ghana...More Money than Sense?

There is a perception about car-owners who personalise their number-plates.

Considering the hefty prices (1000 Ghana cedis or US$930) minimum, I often put it down to these types simply having more money than...sense!
