Here's An Easy Case for CSI:Accra...

...if it existed!

Sure, Accra has A Criminal Investigations Department(CID) at the Ghana Police Service. They have some rudimentary training on forensics, though not quite as sophisticated as those in the teams of the "CSI:" trilogy.

But let's have fun anyway.

Supposing there was CSI:Accra, this case would be an open-and-shut case with minimum use of epitheleals. We'd see a cotton swab dabbed into that "liquid" on the tyre, have the swab sprayed -- only to realise it does not come out red, meaning no sign of blood.

A quick smell of the tyre by police dogs would blow the case wide open...they would probably wag their tail -- like Brian, of Family Guy fame, does -- when he's excited, even while still being the intellectual he is.

While there might be no Grissom equivalent to deliver a witticism, there might be a collective groan that it's only dog pee!

Ghana's Police--Serving and Protecting?

Ghana's police cars are blessed--their license plates are all preceded by "GP";-)

They're also sometimes blue vehicles. Other times, they're pick-ups--like this one.

As to whether they're serving and protecting, one likes to think they're doing great, thankyou!

That they have a website, which can be reached at http://www.ghanapolice.info/main.htm can only go to confirm that they're well-ensconced in the 21st century.

They're not yet on Facebook neither are they on twitter.

...even at the (in)famous Accra Mall!

As the elections approach with incredible celerity in December, we'll be sure to see more of these police patrol cars stationed discreetly round the capital!

Policeman Stops Tro-Tro...on Spintex Road

Looks like someone's going to have a bad day. I'm thinking it's the tro-tro driver whom I presume is in the green t-shirt.

Scenes like these are common Ghanaian currency, especially in the mornings when Ghanaians are going to work. Tro-tro drivers often capitalise on the chaos of traffic to do all sort of unconventional things, such as driving on shoulders and whatnot. Occasionally, a hawk-eyed police officer will put paid to such antics! The other side of the coin is that the police officer will necessarily stop a tro-tro driver, knowing he can extort money from him!

Ghana Police! Wanted: Some Shade, and Rest, Thanks!

It's interesting that Ghanaians in this picture are resting casually under a signboard that says "Wanted By Police", but there you are!

Criminals abound in any country, but does the rest signify any potential apathy towards the police?

No, it's the sun!

Which necessarily makes traders and hawkers in the busier part of the capital feel compelled to rest their bones--no matter where!

Cars Stand Attention: Traffic Wardens in Sight!

See the man, wearing white uniform, to the right of the picture? He is one of many traffic wardens, from Ghana's MTTU, or Motor Traffic and Transport Unit of the Ghana Police Service.

Here, he is directing traffic exactly the lane down, where this picture was taken, near the airport.

Ghana Police: Someone's Always Protecting and Serving

Not to get paranoid here, but it stands to reason that on occasion, the police force stop on shoulders and pavements in the capital to ensure that our fellow citizens are driving the right way, and following the regulations of the road.

This particular police van is so inimitable it's not funny: a big van, provided by the French government (therefore the van being of French origin--most likely a Renault or a citroen)and painted -- what can I say?--police blue;-))

Whilst I am at it, let me just provide you with an insight into Ghana's police force. As far back as 2004, they were running a website which, very unimaginatively, is called http://www.ghanapolice.org;-)
