If You Thought This is Not Traffic at Accra Mall...

...around the infamous Tetteh-Quarshie interchange, wait till the 25th of December! It will be more than bumper-to-bumper.

Truth be told, it's more than that already!!

Terrible Traffic on Spintex Road 17 Aug, 2009

Both northbound and southbound directions revealed tremendous traffic yesterday evening due to an accident on the Tetteh-Quarshie interchange. Those among us who are foolishly intrepid decided to walk instead of staying in a vehicle that was charging you for essentially being in traffic! This picture attests to that "foolishness". My camera-phone was a worthy target for theft but, hey, anything for a photo-op!

Welcome to Gulf House, Accra

Actually, not quite. The building you see in the background is that of what is known as Gulf House. Located just off the Tetteh-Quarshie interchange, it houses Ghana Commercial Bank; Agricultural Development Bank. Opposite it is the sleek-looking Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, which I will do well to bring you a proper picture of one of these days!

One thing I don't quite understand is if Accra Mall and Silver Star Towers can have websites, why not Gulf House, which has been around for at least a decade?

Ghanaian Pedestrians: Red, Stop,...Go!

I had to go to work a little later than usual yesterday as I had duties to the nation to fulfil. The magnitude of the work at hand did not prevent me from taking the time to catch a photo of this pedestrian "meter", located at the Tetteh-Quarshie Interchange.

Before you ask, it does work;-) I do need an answer, though--what do you call what I called the pedestrian "meter"?

Hang on. Please don't switch over too soon. Yes, it is yet-another view of Tetteh-Quarshie, but I thought this one was interesting because of the elements in it:

1. The infamous itinerant vendor
2. The signboard indicating that you're going to Accra and Spintex Road
3. The huge (MTN) billboard

How can you deny the beauty of three regular elements in one picture, the quintessence of some of what makes Accra what it is?;-))

The rainy season, unlike last year in 2007 started around April this year.

Huge Billboards: Onetouch Mobile Network, Eat Your Heart Out!

Huge Billboards are no stranger to this blog. Many Ghanaians who have returned after many years--and foreigners alike--like to tell of an idyllic Accra, where many buildings have sprung about. Too true, that; it must be said though that quite a number of the so-called "beauty" has to do with the psychedelic boards that have sprung up.


This one, by ONETOUCH, Ghana's indigenous mobile provider that has just launched Mobile TV (BlackStar TV) on the network is advertising on the Tetteh-Quarshie interchange a newly-launched service, called FONBUK, that enables customers store up to 250 numbers from one's phone onto a secure server--for free-- in the event that one's phone is lost or stolen, and the contacts all gone.

Views from a Tro-Tro: Traffic on the Tetteh-Quarshie Interchange

If you're a regular visitor to this blog, then you'll know that Tetteh-Quarshie interchange is a regular feature in this blog. Primarily because that is where I pass to go to and from home often.

This particular entry is a different take: yesterday I came back from town, heading for the office at East Legon, around 5.10pm. Bad timing, because that is categorical rush-hour time. I was in a tro-tro this time, and decided to take a shot from my camera-phone. I got a few quizzed faces, but it was worth it!

Up Close and Personal...at the Tetteh-Quarshie Interchange

This was, at least, the scene of serenity that greeted me yesterday evening, as I walked to get a taxi heading for the Spintex Road.

Boy was I in for a surprise, when up above, I would wait for a horrendous 1.5 hours before catching a Spintex-road-bound cab!

So, why the serenity, and free-slow this side on a Wednesday that is rarely traffic-free this side? Could it be the children on vacation?
